Contingency Plans
Fundraising & Providing Client Services
When funding is low, we can create and establish a day, or
week, other than Giving Tuesday to help raise funds. This
will help to create a surplus of donations that will carry into
the next year. We should also account for emergency planning,
meaning that if we have too much money for the year and
we don’t spend it or “reinvest” in our donors, then we should
use it to create an emergency fund. Lastly, in a situation
like the COVID-19 pandemic, where we are severely limited
in our abilities to host fundraisers, events, etc. a good back
up option would be to create gift baskets that mirror the
donation boxes at the supermarket for families during the
holidays.
Event Planning
Cancer Services should always try to plan events that have the option of being converted online if at all possible, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, if that is not a feasible option, for events such as a run or golf tournament, then it would be ideal to try to host the event with a with an indoor option close by in the event of rain and, during the pandemic, is conducive to following social distancing guidelines. Another option for event planning is an auxiliary event. If there is a running event that is planned and it starts raining, have a back up activity that can be held in the rain and can is an easy transition, like a water balloon fight.
Social Media
While each ad should be successful it is not a given in marketing, especially on social media. For this very reason, we should create a backup advertising campaign that will readily replace any advertisement that we decided to put out there, should an ad be perceived as insensitive or not politically correct. Another option would be to develop a backup set of ads that are very different than the one that we are currently using so that should it fail to attract and engage our target audience, then we are capable of changing directions efficiently.
